Ed Chew is an all-rounder and accomplished architect who pays great attention to details and demonstrates excellent critical thinking and research skills. He holds a bachelor‘s degree with a First Class Honors from Deakin University, Australia and brings to his career over 20 years of design and project leadership experience acquired across a broad range of project sectors whilst working as a Design, Project and Resident Architect at several architectural firms in Malaysia, prior to establishing his own practice.
Professional Experience ( 2002 - present)
1) Involved in the design development of a 42-storey office tower in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.
2) Involved in the design development and contract administration of the 1,000 acres Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project. PKFZ consists of 8-storeys office blocks, Custom and Immigration Checkpoint, 512 Units of Light Industrial Warehouse.
3) Monitored, controlled and coordinated the construction activities of a 135-rooms business class hotel and a 9,000 sqm Exhibition Center at Port Klang Free Zone so as to ensure the works are executed smoothly and in accordance with drawings and specifications.
4) Involved in the design development and site implementation of Wijaya Baru Medical Centre (now known as Beacon Hospital Sdn.Bhd.)
5) Involved in the contract administration of a mixed residential development at Bandar Saujana Putra, which consists of low and medium-cost apartments, and 108 Units of 2-storey terrace house.
6) Designed and documented the Sarawak Bakun Hidro’s residential/ recreational township layout for Sime Design Engineering. The township consists of a clubhouse, bungalows, chalets, workers’ squatters and canteen.
7) Involved in the development of 28 Units Semi-Ds, 62 Units of 2-storeys terrace house and 44 Units of 21/2-storeys terrace houses.
8) Engaged in the design and contract administration of two bespoke boutique bungalows for individual clients, ensuring personalized attention to detail and adherence to client specifications.
Teaching Experience ( 2008 - 2024)
9) Instruct architecture and urban design studio courses, providing students with comprehensive guidance and mentorship to develop their design skills, critical thinking abilities, and understanding of architectural principles.
10) Develop and deliver engaging lectures, workshops, and seminars covering various aspects of architecture and urban design, tailored to meet the learning objectives of each course.
11) Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment, encouraging student participation and facilitating constructive feedback sessions to enhance learning outcomes.
